Only Adequan®i.m. treats joint disease, increases lubrication and stimulates cartridge repair

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) act rapidly and are easily administered for the short term relief of pain and inflammation. Potential side effects are: blood disorders, gastro-intestinal ulcers or renal damage.

Corticosteroids are powerful anti-inflammatory drugs that minimize pain and decrease the inflammation of soft tissue rapidly. They can be valuable when used judiciously. Corticosteroids interrupt not only the inflammatory process, but the repair process as well. Sodium hyaluronate, often called HA, helps restore the function of the hyaluronic acid within the joint to improve the lubrication, stimulate natural production of HA and generally improve the synovial fluid.

Polysulfated glycosaminoglycan is a naturally-occurring complex molecule that is the essential building block of the cartilage matrix. Marketed as Adequan®i.m. (POLYSULFATED GLYCOSAMINOGLYCAN), this product travels into injured joints and stimulates production of new cartilage while relieving the symptoms of non-infectious degenerative joint disease. Adequan®i.m. is the ideal, complete treatment for non-infectious degenerative joint disease. See product insert for full prescribing information.

FDA approval helps assure that a product is:

Therapies are not created equal. Many treatments are sold to relieve the symptoms of degenerative joint disease. However, not all products are supported by solid scientific research or manufactured with approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Those include injectable chondroitin sulfate, pharmacy-compounded injectable glucosamine, and oral products claiming to be sulfated glycosaminoglycans. Studies of non-FDA approved products and oral nutritional supplements have shown significantly less effectiveness than products with FDA approval. Generic products also require FDA approval since generic drugs are chemical copies of approved drugs that no longer have patent protection. No approved generic forms of Adequan®i.m. or Legend® (INTRAVENOUS SODIUM HYALURONATE) are currently available.

Studies have not been conducted to establish safety in breeding horses. Do not use in horses intended for human consumption.
